SECTION-A READING COMPREHENSION (SEEN)
1. Read the passage carefully and answer the questions that follow :
When the family sits down to tea, the cat puts in an appearance to get his share. He purrs noisily and rubs himself against the legs of the family members. If there is a guest at the table the cat is particularly civil to him, because the guest is likely to have the best of what is offered. Sometimes, instead of giving him something to eat, the guest stoops down and strokes the cat, and says, "Poor pussy! Poor pussy!" The cat soon tires of that. He puts up his claw and quietly but firmly rakes the guest in the leg. "Ow!" says the guest, "The cat stuck his claws into me!" The delighted family remarks, "Isn't it sweet of him? Isn't he intelligent? He wants you to give him something to eat."
The guest dares not do what he would like to do-kick the cat out of the window. So, with tears of rage and pain in his eyes, he affects to be very much amused, and sorts out a bit of fish from his plate and hands it down. The cat gingerly receives it, with a look in his eyes that says, "Another time, my friend, you won't be so slow to understand." He purrs as he retires to a safe distance from the guest's boot before eating his food.

3. Read the passage carefully and answer the questions that follow :
In the modern age of "sick hurry", to quote a phrase from Matthew Arnold's famous poem "The Scholar Gypsy", T20 cricket has gained popularity for more than one reason. The universal manifestation of this format of cricket, of course from the perspective of the male, is indeed the ICC Men's T20 World Cup which in 2024 was co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States from 1st to 29th June, 2024. 20 teams from all over the globe participated in it and a total of 55 matches were played to decide the winner. The apogee of these matches was of course the 55th match, i.e. the final match which was played on the 29th of June at the Kensington Oval in Barbados between India and South Africa. Both the teams being hitherto unbeaten in the tournament, it was expected that the encounter would be worthy of a final and it proved to be more than that. While South Africa, never winning in any format of the World Cup was determined to make amends, India was keen to repeat their feat of 2007, though under the leadership of veteran Rohit Sharma. The match started with the Indian captain winning the toss and batting first in this high voltage match. However, nothing went in favour of India as the captain himself, the left-hander Pant and Mr. 360 of Indian cricket Suryakumar Yadav went cheaply with the paltry score of 34 for 3 in 4.3 overs. However, Virat Kohli, the glory of batting in world cricket at present and the balling allrounder Axar Patel took control of the situation and took the score up to 106 from 13.2 overs. After the fall of Axar Patel, Kohli kept the scoreboard moving and was aided by Dube with a cameo of 27 runs at a strike rate of 168.75. At the fall of Kohli at an individual score of 76, Pandya and Jadeja took the innings tu 176 at the loss of 7 wickets. Scoring 177 while chasing was never going to be easy and it proved to be more difficult as South Africa lost Hendricks and Markram cheaply, thanks to some superb bowling by Bumrah and Arshdeep. Stubbs and de Cock then steadied the innings but Stubbs fell to Axar at an individual score of 31 and the team score of 70. Then came Klassen and had a good 30 odd run partnership with de Cock before de Cock fell. Veteran David Miller came to the crease but had nothing to do as Klassen took a violent shape and scored at a strike rate of 192.59 and thus bringing the equation to 30 runs to score from 30 balls. All the Indians sensed a repetition of the heartbreak of the 2023 World Cup. Then Bumrah was reintroduced into the attack and he bowled a tidy over by giving only 4 runs. The pressure created by Bumrah led to the downfall of Klassen in the very first ball of Pandya over. The Indians breathed life as South Africa could score only four runs from that over with Jansen being new at the crease. The 18th over is always very crucial in a T20 match and it proved to be no different as Bumrah not only kept things tight conceding only 2 runs but also making Jansen clean bowled with a beautiful inswinger. All responsibility was on Miller as the bowlers were left to give him company and 20 runs to score from the last two overs. Things looked very bright as South Africa could score only 4 runs from the penultimate over bowled by Arshdeep Singh. With 16 runs to score from the final over and Bumrah having ended his spell already, the ball was thrown in the hands of Pandya about whose talent there has never been any doubt. The first ball of the over saw a superb catch by SKY to dismiss the danger man Miller and India surely came an inch closer to the coveted trophy. Though Rabada got a lucky boundary and Pandya bowled a wide ball, these could not prevent India from being the champion by winning the match by 7 runs. Truly speaking, the Indian players showed nerves under extreme pressure and snatched the trophy from South Africa who were at a very commanding position at one stage. It being the final match of the coach Rahul Dravid, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Rabindra Jadeja, there was elation among all the Indians present in the ground but there was a sense of disbelief and despair in the South African camp. Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah were adjudged the player of the match and the player of the series respectively.
